A bad podcast is worse than no podcast

Posted: Thursday, December 4th, 2008

A recent article in the Financial Times suggests a bad podcast is worse than no podcast at all. But with many businesses considering podcasts as a way to extend the reach of their brand, how do they make sure they don’t fall into the bad category?

NCFE, a UK national awarding body, saw there was a need to teach the techniques that go into creating a successful podcast and to develop the relevant skills. They launched the first – and so far only – qualification in podcasting earlier this year.

There are few simple steps that anyone can take to make sure our podcast is a good one, according to David Grailey, Chief Executive at NCFE.

Start by listening to existing podcasts, in your sector if possible. This simple exercise will build up your knowledge and experience of podcasting and it will also help you judge what works and what doesn’t.

Also, try to become as familiar as possible with podcasting software. Businesses need to research what software will suit the organisation and will be compatible with existing infrastructures and facilities.
